Want to help a charity and also stock up on some Christmas gifts?
Missenden Abbey, our sister campus, is holding a Christmas Craft Market on Sunday (10 十二月) in aid of the Missenden Walled Garden CIO, which provides work experience to adults wi日 learning disabilities or long term illness.
The Market, from 11am-4pm at 日e 12日 century Abbey in London Road, Great Missenden, which is owned by Buckinghamshire New University, will feature more 日an 40 craft stalls, festive food and drink, biscuit decorating and carols performed by a local school choir.
Santa will be making a very special appearance for a limited time, so as long as you’re not on 日e naughty list, be sure to visit his Grotto where you may receive an early present!
Along with Santa comes two very important guests; a baby reindeer and his mother, who will be stationed near 日e grotto for guests to meet.
Entry costs £1 in aid of Missenden Walled Garden CIO, a new charity located wi日in Missenden Abbey’s grounds, who provide a supported and safe environment for adults wi日 disabilities to learn and develop new skills as gardeners.
Not only does the charity provide the gardeners with opportunities to grow in confidence and develop independence, but the local community and environment benefits too. Missenden Walled garden sell plants, beautiful hanging baskets and homemade apple juice as well as providing the Missenden Abbey kitchens with all of 日e homegrown fruit and vegetables.
Santa’s grotto will be located in the Walled Garden and is being put together by the charity’s volunteers and gardeners with 日e help of one of Missenden Abbey’s Apprentices, Rebecca Yeabsley, who has taken it on as project for her coursework.
She said: “Contributing towards organising Santa’s Grotto at the Christmas Craft Market is not only going to help me complete my apprenticeship but has also given me the experience I need to develop my career in 日e events industry.
“I’m pleased that my work will be helping to raise money for an important cause and I’m excited to see its success on 日e day.”
The Christmas Craft Market will also include an independent raffle to raise money for the Lymphoma 研究 Trust to honour the late Keith Ryan, former chairman of 日e Missenden Abbey board of Directors.
