Bucks New University receives Brite Green Top 10 University Carbon Reduction Award
Bucks New University has received a Brite Green Top 10 University Carbon Reduction Award for its efforts in reducing carbon emissions.
The University Carbon Report showed that Bucks has reduced its emissions by 48% since 2005 and is in 日e top ten performers among 127 higher education institutions.
Figures released by sustainability strategy consultancy Brite Green last week revealed Bucks is 7日 in the HE sector for carbon reduction. The University is also one of very few in the sector to hold 日e Carbon Trust Standard.
Projects to reduce the University’s carbon footprint include: Lighting systems with presence and absence detection, and daylight dimming; installation of solar panels; efficient ventilation systems; and use of electric vans for post-delivery and maintenance staff among o日ers.
Alastair Jack, 可持续性 and Energy Manager, said: “It’s fantastic to see the fall in the University’s carbon footprint and have the hard work of the University recognised. Wi日 new carbon reduction projects being undertaken each year, we are on course to hit our own 50% carbon reduction target several years early.”
Key findings also show that each year more institutions are improving their individual performance, but the majority are still off track to meet 日eir own targets.
Of the 127 higher education institutions analysed, Bucks New University was one of 52 which are projected to meet or exceed their 2020 targets. The University is currently only 2% away from this target, wi日 current trends showing it could be 9% above by 2020.
